You will find in Nakuru a varied fauna with in particular many birds and rare species of mammals. At favorable times, the concentration of flamingos can be so dense that the edges of the lake are colored with an intense pink for hundreds of meters. Many other species frequent the riverbanks and forests bordering the lake like the white and pink pelicans. These wooded areas are also home to several varieties of kingfishers, fish eagles, crested eagles, and other augurates. The rare Rothschild giraffes share the space with zebras, buffaloes, and impalas that feed lions, leopards, and hyenas under the indifferent gaze of white and black rhinos.

Many antelopes and other warthogs live permanently in the reserve. They bring, in all seasons, the multiple predators installed their regular ration also ensuring tourists, photographers or observers, a permanent show in Mara where only the rainy season can push back the traveler.

However, the most impressive that offers Mara undoubtedly remains the migration of wildebeest. By a herd of several thousand, they cross the river which they cross at the risk of their life. Driven by the group, in a hodgepodge of bellows and splashes, some rush dangerously from the banks while others swim within reach of the jaws of monstrous crocodiles patiently settled, waiting for their time. A spectacle as grandiose as cruel.
